Water treatment

Zeolites are a group of natural minerals that possess certain properties enabling them to exchange one charged ion present in their crystal structure for another ion present in the environment. Zeolite is an effective remover of ammonia and also provides a large surface area for nitrifying bacteria in recirculating systems. Zeolite not only provides optical water clarity but also keeps it biologically clean. Key benefits: • absorbs toxic ammonia • absorbs heavy metals and pesticides • removes micro particles from water • reduces algae growth • prevents the spread and concentration of unpleasant odors in water supply facilities • prevents the development of microorganisms and decay in water • will not cloud the water • non-toxic • completely safe for fish and nitrifying bacteria

Zeolites contribute to a cleaner, safer environment in many ways. In fact, nearly every application of zeolites is driven by concern for environmental issues or plays a significant role in reducing toxic waste. The highly porous structure of zeolites traps contaminating particles down to a size of 4 microns. They have a naturally negative charge, which gives them the ability to adsorb cations, some organic pollutants, and unwanted odors. Zeolites are highly selective collectors of various metal cations that can be removed from water through ion exchange processes. Natural zeolites are excellent ion exchangers for removing and reclaiming heavy metal cations (Pb, Cu, Cd, Zn, Co, Cr, Mn, and Fe; Pb and Cu up to 97%) from drinking and wastewater. Ammonia is a major issue in municipal wastewater treatment. This exceptional mineral has a tremendous capacity for adsorbing ammonia. Ammonia levels in municipal wastewater can be reduced to 10–15 ppm after passing through a treatment facility. The filtration capabilities of zeolites offer diverse and environmentally friendly options for capturing most pollutants found in water systems. Natural zeolites can perform these functions due to their high ion exchange capacity, adsorption-desorption energy, and ability to be modified.
